House Bill 1187

AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE THE MISSISSIPPI DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE, FISHERIES AND PARKS TO PERMIT STATE EMPLOYEES AND PERSONS FIFTY-FIVE YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER TO RECEIVE A FIFTY PERCENT DISCOUNT ON CAMPING FEES CHARGED AT ALL STATE PARKS WITHIN THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. (1) The Mississippi Commission on Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks may implement a program allowing (a) full-time state employees, and (b) residents of Mississippi who are fifty-five (55) years of age or older to receive a fifty percent (50%) discount on camping fees, golf green fees, cart rental fees and any other fees charged at any state park within the State of Mississippi. The commission shall limit the period during which discounts are offered for use of the particular facilities or equipment at each park to those months, days of the week and times of the day when, as determined by the commission, the particular facilities or equipment of that park customarily are less congested and not subject to high volume use.

(2) In order to receive the fifty percent (50%) discount, a prospective recipient must present satisfactory proof of full-time employment with the state or age.

(a) Satisfactory proof of state employment includes an identification card, badge, letter, certificate or other document from the agency or department of the state by whom the worker is employed, attesting that the worker is employed full-time by the State of Mississippi.

(b) Satisfactory proof of age includes a birth certificate or state driver's license.

SECTION 2. The Mississippi Commission on Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks may promulgate rules and regulations as reasonably may be necessary and incidental to the efficient administration of this program.

SECTION 3. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2001.
