AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 49-15-95, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO PROVIDE THAT IT IS UNLAWFUL TO USE BRILL AND CAST NETS GREATER THAN TWELVE FEET IN RADIUS IN THE MARINE WATERS OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. Section 49-15-95, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:

49-15-95. (1) It is unlawful to use brill and cast nets greater than twelve (12) feet * * * in radius in the marine waters of the State of Mississippi.

(2) The commission shall not prohibit the use of brill and cast nets in the waters designated in subsection (1) of this section whether or not such waters shall be determined as fresh or salt waters. No person shall catch more than fifty (50) pounds of shrimp per day using brill and cast nets as provided by this section.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2001.
