AN ACT TO PROHIBIT THE POSSESSION OR TRANSPORT OF FIREARMS WITH ALTERED SERIAL NUMBERS; TO PROVIDE PENALTIES FOR VIOLATIONS; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. It shall be unlawful for any person knowingly to transport, ship or receive any firearm which has had the importer's or manufacturer's serial number removed, obliterated or altered, or to possess or receive any firearm which has had the importer's or manufacturer's serial number removed, obliterated or altered and has, at any time, been shipped or transported in interstate or foreign commerce. Any person who violates this section shall, upon conviction, be punished by a fine of not more than One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00), or by imprisonment in the county jail not exceeding one (1) year, or both.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2001.
