AN ACT TO PROHIBIT THE OPERATION WITHIN A PUBLIC PLACE OF ANY SOUND SYSTEM OR OTHER DEVICE IN A MANNER THAT PRODUCES SUCH LOUD OR UNUSUAL NOISE OR ABUSIVE, PROFANE, VULGAR OR INDECENT LANGUAGE SO AS TO DISTURB THE PEACE OF OTHERS; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. (1) It shall be unlawful for any person to operate in, upon or within the right-of-way of any public street, road or highway or in or upon any other public place or structure any radio, recorder, high fidelity or other mechanical or electronic sound system or device in a manner that produces such loud or unusual noise or such abusive, profane, vulgar or indecent language so as to disturb the peace of others lawfully present or occupying such place or structure.

(2) Any person who violates the provisions of subsection (1) of this section, upon conviction, shall be punished by a fine of not more than One Hundred Dollars ($100.00), by imprisonment in the county jail for not more than thirty (30) days, or by both such fine and imprisonment.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2001.
