TO THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES:

GOVERNOR'S VETO MESSAGE FOR HOUSE BILL 1342

I am returning House Bill No. 1342: "AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 67-3-22, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO ALLOW A HOSPITALITY OPERATOR TO PROVIDE COMPLIMENTARY LIGHT WINE OR BEER PRODUCED AT A BREWPUB TO CERTAIN GUESTS; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES." without my approval, and assign the following reasons for my veto:

When the brewpub legislation was originally enacted, the proponents agreed that their brew would be sold for at least the price it costs to manufacture. I see no reason to deviate from this agreement and legislative enactment.

Additionally, the terms and definitions of the bill leave room for differing interpretations that could lead to confusion in enforcement of this proposed change in the law.

Respectfully submitted,

RONNIE MUSGROVE
GOVERNOR
