REPORT OF CONFERENCE COMMITTEE

MR. SPEAKER AND MR. PRESIDENT:

We, the undersigned conferees, have had under consideration the amendments to the following entitled BILL:

H. B. No. 968: Social workers; authorize DHS to use federal funds to employ time-limited.

We, therefore, respectfully submit the following report and recommendation:

1. That the House concur in Senate Amendment No. 1 with the following exception(s):

 

AMEND by striking Sections 3 through 5 being lines 88 through 313, and renumbering subsequent sections accordingly.

FURTHER amend by striking lines 314 through 316 and inserting in lieu thereof the following:

SECTION 6. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

FURTHER amend by striking the title in its entirety and inserting in lieu thereof the following:

AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 43-27-107, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO AUTHORIZE THE DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN SERVICES TO USE FEDERAL FUNDS TO EMPLOY ADDITIONAL SOCIAL WORKERS IN TIME-LIMITED POSITIONS AND TO DELETE CERTAIN RESTRICTIONS REGARDING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF SUCH TIME-LIMITED POSITIONS; TO AMEND SECTION 73-53-7, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO PROVIDE THAT CERTAIN PERSONS WHO HAVE AT LEAST EIGHT YEARS OF SOCIAL WORK PRACTICE AS AN EMPLOYEE OF A PUBLIC ENTITY BEFORE JULY 1, 1993, WHO IS ACTIVELY ENGAGED IN SOCIAL WORK PRACTICE AS AN EMPLOYEE OF A PUBLIC ENTITY ON JULY 1, 2000, SHALL BE ISSUED A LICENSE AS A SOCIAL WORKER IF THE PERSON APPLIES FOR THE LICENSE BEFORE SEPTEMBER 1, 2000; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

2. That the Senate concur in the above exception(s).
