A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE GULFPORT HIGH SCHOOL TECHNOLOGY APPLICATION CLASS AND ROBOTICS TEAM MEMBERS FOR WINNING THE 2000 FIRST ROBOTICS COMPETITION REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP AWARD AND FOR WINNING THE ROOKIE ALL-STAR AWARD.

WHEREAS, the Gulfport High School Technology Application Class and Robotics Team members won the 2000 FIRST Robotics Competition Regional Championship Award; and

WHEREAS, the Gulfport High School Technology Application Class and Robotics Team also won the Rookie All-Star Award at the regional competition; and

WHEREAS, the team advanced to the national semi-finals; and

WHEREAS, this is the first time that the Gulfport High School team has entered the robotics competition; and

WHEREAS, the FIRST Robotics Competition is a national engineering contest in which the participants discover the important connection between classroom lessons and real world applications; and

WHEREAS, the Gulfport High School team was competing against the best engineering students nationwide; and

WHEREAS, the Gulfport High School team received substantial financial support and technical support from NASA; and

WHEREAS, the Gulfport High School team is composed of student members: Adam Levanway, Tara Busby, Chris Cornett, Nathan D'Angelo, Paul Fernandez, Brian Singletary, Justin Yates, Adam Buckalew, Anthony Hardaway, Richard Kelly, Sean McCrary, Cale Merrill, Jason O'Connell, Matt Yates, Joseph Bollacker, Adam Mitchell, Chris Ramage, William Van Kirk, Anthony Vlahos, James Weaver, Phillip Wells and instructor, David Fava; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Mississippi Senate to recognize and commend the noteworthy accomplishments of the citizens of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we commend the Gulfport High School Technology Application Class and Robotics Team members for winning the 2000 FIRST Robotics Competition Regional Championship Award and the Rookie All-Star Award.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be presented to team members.
