A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MS. FREDDIE WHITE-JOHNSON UPON HER RECEIPT OF THE ROBERT WOODS JOHNSON COMMUNITY HEALTH LEADERSHIP AWARD.

WHEREAS, Freddie White-Johnson, a native of Ruleville, Mississippi, will be awarded the Robert Woods Johnson Community Health Leadership Award, which is given to an individual who has demonstrated the utmost concern for community health, promoted healthy living and actively engaged their community in planning and participating in health promotion and prevention; and

WHEREAS, Ms. White-Johnson currently facilitates health workshops under the Partners for Improved Nutrition and Health (PINAH) self-help program at Sidon, Mississippi; facilitates the Teens Against Premature Pregnancy (TAPP) Outreach Program in the rural Mississippi Delta; facilitates "smoke-out" workshops for local youth in Leflore County, Mississippi; facilitates the Community Health Advisors Program in District III; and facilitates collaborative health action efforts with local schools, hospitals, community and recreation centers, all designed to improve the health and nutrition of the local community; and

WHEREAS, she applies great energy, determination and zeal into galvanizing the community into self-improvement; she is an excellent organizer, coordinator, team-leader and highly efficient networker; she is extremely knowledgeable about the information she disseminates; she is highly motivated and has excellent communication skills; and all of these characteristics have been recognized by this most prestigious award; and

WHEREAS, Ms. White-Johnson is a board member of several civic bodies, such as United Way of Leflore County, FEMA of Leflore County, Communities in Schools, the National Organophosporus Insecticides and Children's Health National Advisory Committee for the Centers for Environmental Health Sciences at Mississippi State University; is an active member of the Greenwood-Leflore Chamber of Commerce, the Kappa Alpha Omega Chapter of AKA Sorority, the Order of the Eastern Star; and has received the following awards and appointments: HUD Fellowship for Graduate School, Public Administration Excellence Award 1983, Outstanding Young Women of America Award 1984, At-Large Member of Mississippi Against Hunger Coalition 1992, Governor's Physical Fitness and Sports Task Force 1993; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this outstanding leader of LeFlore County, whose commitment, care and concern for all citizens, even the less-privileged, has improved the health of her local community and the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Ms. Freddie White-Johnson of Ruleville, Mississippi, upon her receipt of the Robert Wood Johnson Community Health Leadership Award, and commend her volunteerism and motivational spirit to all Mississippians.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to Freddie and her family and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
