A RESOLUTION TO COMMEND AND CONGRATULATE JOURDYN COMBS UPON BEING SELECTED BELLSOUTH FEMALE SPORTSMAN OF THE YEAR AT THE 1999 STATE GAMES OF MISSISSIPPI.

WHEREAS, Jourdyn Combs was selected as the BellSouth Female Sportsman of the Year; and

WHEREAS, Jourdyn Combs has been engaged in athletics since the age of four; and

WHEREAS, Jourdyn Combs first competed in the State Games of Mississippi in 1999 as a member of the Bayou View Babes 12 and Under Slow Pitch Softball Team; and

WHEREAS, Jourdyn Combs, as a member of the 1999 Bayou View Babes, pitched every pitch of eight games enroute to the Gold Medal; and

WHEREAS, Jourdyn Combs is actively engaged at Bayou View Middle School as a member of the basketball team, the cheerleader squad, the National Junior Honor Society and the Student Council; and

WHEREAS, Jourdyn Combs loves sports and participates for the sheer joy of it; and

WHEREAS, Jourdyn Combs exhibits tremendous sportsmanship toward all players, her teammates as well as her opponents; and

WHEREAS, Jourdyn Combs, in overcoming a birth defect, loves proving to herself and others that nothing can stop a strong will and determination; and

WHEREAS, the BellSouth Sportsman of the Year award honors the foremost male and female sportsman of the year who represent the true spirit of competition; and

WHEREAS, Jourdyn Combs was selected Female Sportsman of the Year not only for her athletic accomplishments but also for her exemplary sportsmanship; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Senate to commend the meritorious achievements of the citizens of this state:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That the Senate does hereby commend and congratulate Jourdyn Combs for her accomplishments and for being selected as the 1999 BellSouth Female Sportsman of the Year.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to Jourdyn Combs and her family.
