Senate Concurrent Resolution 663

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE MURRAH HIGH SCHOOL "MUSTANGS" BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM AS THE 2000 STATE 5A CHAMPIONSHIP RUNNER-UP.

WHEREAS, the Murrah High School "Mustangs" Boys Basketball Team finished the 1999-2000 season in spectacular fashion as the runner-up for the State 5A Championship, with a heartbreaking loss to Harrison Central by 3 points in overtime; and

WHEREAS, the Mustangs finished the season with an excellent record of 28 wins, while losing only 4 games; and

WHEREAS, in addition to the state championship series, Coach Frith's team accomplished the following tournament victories: Winner of Division 4-5A Tournament, Winner of 5-A North State Regional Championship, Runner-up in the Jackson Public School's Pepsi Classic; and

WHEREAS, the success of this season was a team effort, however, the following team members were recognized for individual honors: Mo Williams, Matty Barnes and Josh Armstrong were voted to the All-State Tournament Team, and Mo Williams was voted the Metro Player of the Year, in addition to the first team honor; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize the accomplishments of this squad of talented athletes, who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Murrah High School "Mustangs" Boys Basketball Team for their excellent season and as the 2000 State Championship Runner-up, and wish them continued success in their future athletic and academic endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to Coach Robert Frith on behalf of the team and to Karen Wilson, Principal of Murrah High School, and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
