A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING AND COMMENDING DONELL HARRELL ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT CELEBRATION AFTER 36 YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE IN THE EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM OF CLARKSDALE, MISSISSIPPI.

WHEREAS, Donell Harrell will be honored for his outstanding service by Administrators, Faculty and Staff of Clarksdale Municipal School District, and his family and many friends at a Retirement Celebration to be held on Sunday, May 7, 2000, at Clarksdale High School in Clarksdale, Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, Donell Harrell is married to Vera Collins Harrell and they have been blessed with two daughters, namely, LaDonna (Harrell) Harris and LaToya Harrell; and

WHEREAS, Donell Harrell has faithfully served for 36 years in the educational system in Clarksdale, Mississippi in the capacities of Teacher, Principal, Assistant Superintendent, and for the last five years as Superintendent; and

WHEREAS, Donell Harrell, as Superintendent of Clarksdale Municipal School District, has ably fulfilled his duties and responsibilities for administering 12 schools, including eight elementary schools, three secondary schools and one vocational technical center; and

WHEREAS, Donell Harrell received his bachelor's degree from Alcorn State University (1964), his master's degree from Delta State University (1974), and his specialist degree from Delta State University (1980); and

WHEREAS, Donell Harrell is a member of and works closely with many education associations, including, the Mississippi Association of Educators, Mississippi Association of School Superintendents, American Association of School Administrators, National Association of Year-Round Educators, and National Black Educators Association; and

WHEREAS, Donell Harrell was very instrumental in the 1996 passage of a 7.8 Million-Dollar School Bond Issue for construction and renovations of secondary and elementary schools in the Clarksdale Municipal School District; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Legislature to recognize and honor the accomplishments and achievements of citizens of this state, and especially those who have devoted their lives to the educational system in our state:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby congratulate and commend Donell Harrell on his 36 years of dedicated service to the children and the educational system of our state.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That Senator Delma Furniss is hereby designated to represent this body in presenting this resolution to Donell Harrell on the occasion of his Retirement Celebration to be held on May 7, 2000, at Clarksdale High School in Clarksdale.
