A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE CAREER AND CONTRIBUTIONS OF REAR ADMIRAL KENNETH E. BARBOR, UNITED STATES NAVY, COMMANDER, NAVAL METEOROLOGY AND OCEANOGRAPHY COMMAND.

WHEREAS, while Commander of Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command, the distinguished service of Kenneth E. Barbor has brought recognition to the Stennis Space Center and the State of Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, the career of Kenneth E. Barbor has been a career of a steady rise in positions of responsibility and leadership; and

WHEREAS, Kenneth E. Barbor began his naval career when he received his degree in meteorology and oceanography from the University of Michigan and a Navy commission through the ROTC program in 1972; and

WHEREAS, he received a Masters of Science in Meteorology and Oceanography from the Naval Postgraduate School in 1978; and

WHEREAS, from 1982-1985, Kenneth E. Barbor served as Officer in Charge, Naval Oceanography Command Detachment, Brunswick, Maine; and

WHEREAS, in 1991, he assumed command of Naval Oceanography Command Facility, Brunswick, Maine; and

WHEREAS, in 1993, he reported to the Staff of Commander, Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command as Assistant Chief of Staff for Program Integration and subsequently as Assistant Chief of Staff for Resources; and

WHEREAS, in 1995, he became Commanding Officer, Naval Atlantic Meteorology and Oceanography Center in Norfolk, Virginia; and

WHEREAS, in 1997, he became the Commander, Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command; and

WHEREAS, during his exemplary career, Kenneth E. Barbor has received two Legion of Merit awards, three Meritorious Service Medals, the Navy Commendation Medal and the Navy Achievement Medal; and

WHEREAS, Kenneth E. Barbor is the epitome of the loyal and dedicated citizens who fulfill the military obligations of our nation; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Legislature of the State of Mississippi to commend the leadership and contributions of citizens who bring honor and recognition to the State of Mississippi and the United States of America:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend Rear Admiral Kenneth E. Barbor, Commander, Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command, for his distinguished career and his contributions to the State of Mississippi and the United States of America.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to Rear Admiral Kenneth E. Barbor, Commander, Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command.
