A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MISSISSIPPI POWER COMPANY FOR PROVIDING 75 YEARS OF CONTINUOUS ELECTRIC SERVICE TO THE PEOPLE OF SOUTHEAST MISSISSIPPI.

WHEREAS, Mississippi Power Company began operations on January 1, 1925, with only 5,000 customers; and

WHEREAS, Mississippi Power Company has grown during its 75-year history to serve more than 189,000 customers in portions of 23 counties of southeast Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, Mississippi Power Company operates five electric generating plants and maintains 32 division and local offices in its service territory; and

WHEREAS, Mississippi Power Company is a subsidiary of the Southern Company, the largest private generator of electric power in the country; and

WHEREAS, Mississippi Power Company's employees earned their industry's highest honor, the Edison Award, for the restoration of electric service following Hurricane Camille; and

WHEREAS, Mississippi Power Company established the first private economic development department in the state; and

WHEREAS, Mississippi Power Company seeks, in all operational aspects, to be a good corporate citizen; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Legislature to recognize those organizations which have made contributions to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Mississippi Power Company for providing 75 years of continuous electric service to the people of southeast Mississippi.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to Mississippi Power Company.
