Senate Concurrent Resolution 597

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETES WHO SIGNED WITH MISSISSIPPI UNIVERSITIES AND COLLEGES.

WHEREAS, Mississippi universities and colleges are perennial participants in post season play in football, baseball, basketball and other sports; and

WHEREAS, our universities and colleges are competitive nationally in spite of the fact that schools from every state in the nation recruit the talented high school players in Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, each year many of the top high school recruits remain in the state and sign with state universities and colleges; and

WHEREAS, in 1999-2000, 31 of the top 40 football recruits signed with in-state universities and colleges; and

WHEREAS, a high proportion of baseball, basketball, and players of other sports also sign with in-state universities and colleges; and

WHEREAS, the signing of in-state players is crucial to Mississippi's universities and colleges remaining competitive nationally:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend all high school players who signed with in-state universities and colleges.
