A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE PUBLIC SERVICE CAREER OF PORT GIBSON MAYOR JAMES BEESLEY UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT.
WHEREAS, James Beesley, Mayor of Port Gibson, Mississippi, for the past 17 years, has chosen not to run for re-election and will be retiring at the conclusion of this term of office; and
WHEREAS, the hallmark of Mayor Beesley's administration has been a very positive effort in increased cooperation between city and county governments and law enforcement; and
WHEREAS, under Mayor Beesley's tenure, meetings of the Mayor and Board of Aldermen were very productive and indicative of the spirit of cooperation advanced by the Mayor; and
WHEREAS, among the many accomplishments during his tenure, all streets in Port Gibson have been overlaid, and working with state and federal governmental agencies, the streams inside of the city limits have been riprapped to avoid erosion and two new bridges and guard rails have been built; and
WHEREAS, he has guided efforts to complete a second water tank for the city in the Ingleside community which will triple the water reserve for Port Gibson, and work has been completed on an erosion control project on Bayou Pierre; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Beesley's unassuming manner and cooperative spirit have benefited the citizens of Port Gibson, and it is with great pride that we recognize the public service career of James Beesley, whose civic responsibility and dedication has served as an example to all citizens in the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the public service career of James Beesley, Mayor of the City of Port Gibson for the past 17 years, and wish him success in his future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Mayor James Beesley and his family, be forwarded to the Board of Aldermen of the City of Port Gibson, and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
