AN ACT TO PROVIDE THAT THE REGULAR APPOINTING AUTHORITY SHALL HAVE THE AUTHORITY TO CONFIRM THE SUSPENSION OF MEMBERS OF THE CIVIL SERVICE BY THE CHIEFS OF THE FIRE DEPARTMENT AND POLICE OF THE CITY OF VICKSBURG, MISSISSIPPI, WITHIN TEN DAYS RATHER THAN WITHIN THREE DAYS AS PROVIDED FOR BY SECTION 21-31-23; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. Notwithstanding the provisions of Section 21-31-23 to the contrary, the governing authorities of the City of Vicksburg, Mississippi, shall have the authority to confirm the suspension of a member of the civil service by the chief of the fire department or the chief of police within ten (10) days rather than within three (3) days as provided by Section 21-31-23.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2000.
