AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 13-5-95, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO PROVIDE COMPENSATION FOR JURY BAILIFFS; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. Section 13-5-95, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:

13-5-95. In selecting overnight accommodations for jurors, the court shall provide separate housing for men and women jurors. Male bailiffs shall accompany the male jurors, and female bailiffs the female jurors. For each day or fraction thereof the bailiffs are occupied with the discharge of these official duties, each shall be entitled to Sixty Dollars ($60.00) per diem compensation. At least one (1) bailiff shall accompany each group, and the court in its sound discretion shall require as many bailiffs as are necessary. Either group may be housed in private premises if necessary.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2000.
