AN ACT MAKING AN ADDITIONAL APPROPRIATION OF STATE GENERAL FUNDS TO THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION FOR THE PURPOSE OF PROVIDING ADDITIONAL FUNDS FOR THE CRITICAL NEEDS TEACHER SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM; AND FOR THE PURPOSE OF PROVIDING ADDITIONAL SPENDING AUTHORITY TO THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF STATE INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER LEARNING TO ADMINISTER THE CRITICAL NEEDS TEACHER SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM, FOR FISCAL YEAR 2000.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. In addition to all other sums heretofore appropriated, the following sum, or so much thereof as may be necessary, is hereby appropriated out of any money in the State General Fund not otherwise appropriated, to the State Department of Education for the purpose of providing additional funds to support the Critical Needs Teacher Scholarship Program for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2000 $ 753,714.00.

In addition to the funds provided in this Section for the Critical Needs Teacher Scholarship Program, the State Department of Education is hereby authorized to also utilize the One Million Four Hundred Thousand Dollars ($1,400,000.00) appropriated in House Bill No. 1636, 1999 Regular Session, for support of the Family Resource Centers as authorized in House Bill No. 973, 1999 Regular Session, which was vetoed subsequent to the appropriation.

SECTION 2. In addition to all other sums heretofore authorized, the following sum, or so much thereof as may be necessary, is hereby authorized for expenditure by the Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning out of any money available to support the Critical Needs Teacher Scholarship Program for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2000

$ 2,153,714.00.

SECTION 3. The money herein appropriated shall be paid by the State Treasurer out of any money in the proper fund or funds as set forth in this act, upon warrants issued by the State Fiscal Officer; and the State Fiscal Officer shall issue his warrants upon requisitions signed by the proper person, officer or officers in the manner provided by law.

SECTION 4. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
