AN ACT TO REPEAL SECTIONS 9-13-101, 9-13-103, 9-13-105, 9-13-107, 9-13-109, 9-13-111, 9-13-113, 9-13-115, 9-13-117, 9-13-119, 9-13-121 AND 9-13-123, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, WHICH CREATE A BOARD OF CERTIFIED COURT REPORTERS AND ESTABLISH ITS MEMBERSHIP AND TERMS OF OFFICE; PRESCRIBE THE MEETINGS OF THE BOARD, ITS OFFICERS, AND POWERS AND DUTIES; REQUIRE THE CERTIFICATION OF COURT REPORTERS AND PROVIDE FOR APPLICATION FOR CERTIFICATION EXAMINATION; PRESCRIBE THE REQUIREMENTS FOR CERTIFICATION; ALLOW GRANDFATHERING OF CERTAIN PERSONS WITHOUT EXAMINATION; REQUIRE CERTIFICATION TO PRACTICE THE PROFESSION; CREATE AN EXCEPTION FOR TEMPORARY REPORTERS; MAKE PROVISION FOR FREE-LANCE AND NONRESIDENT REPORTERS; PROVIDE FOR THE REVOCATION, SUSPENSION AND DISQUALIFICATION OF CERTIFICATES; PROVIDE FOR AN ANNUAL CERTIFICATION FEE AND RENEWAL OF CERTIFICATE; PRESCRIBE THE GIVING OF EXAMINATIONS FOR CERTIFICATION; AND PRESCRIBE THE EFFECT OF THE CHAPTER ON COURTS AND INDIVIDUALS' RIGHTS; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. Sections 9-13-101, 9-13-103, 9-13-105, 9-13-107, 9-13-109, 9-13-111, 9-13-113, 9-13-115, 9-13-117, 9-13-119, 9-13-121 and 9-13-123, Mississippi Code of 1972, which create a board of certified court reporters and establish its membership and terms of office; prescribe the meetings of the board, its officers, and powers and duties; require the certification of court reporters and provide for application for certification examination; prescribe the requirements for certification; allow grandfathering of certain persons without examination; require certification to practice the profession; create an exception for temporary reporters; make provision for free-lance and nonresident reporters; provide for the revocation, suspension and disqualification of certificates; provide for an annual certification fee and renewal of certificate; prescribe the giving of examinations for certification; and prescribe the effect of the chapter on courts and individuals' rights, are hereby repealed.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2000.
