AN ACT TO CODIFY SECTION 25-9-157, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO PROVIDE THAT QUALIFIED GRADUATES OF MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOLS, COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES SHALL BE GIVEN PREFERENCE FOR INITIAL OR PROMOTIONAL APPOINTMENT TO STATE SERVICE POSITIONS; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. The following provision shall be codified as Section 25-9-157, Mississippi Code of 1972:

25-9-157. The State Personnel Board shall grant graduates of high schools, colleges and universities located in the State of Mississippi, who are fully qualified, preference over other general public applicants, for initial or promotional appointment to state service positions. The State Personnel Board is authorized to establish a formula by rule and regulation to implement the provisions of this section.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2000.
