House Resolution 30

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE MARSHALL ACADEMY HIGH SCHOOL PATRIOTS BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING 1999-2000 SEASON AND FOR WINNING THE MPSA AAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

WHEREAS, the Marshall Academy High School Patriots Boys Basketball Team completed the 1999-2000 season with an outstanding 23-9 record, winning the MPSA AAA State Championship; and

WHEREAS, the Patriots had an excellent tournament season this year, winning the AAA District Championship and the AAA North Half State Championship; and

WHEREAS, many individual honors have been bestowed upon members of the team for their outstanding and dedicated play this season including the naming of Paul Brandon, Jason Burch, Nathan Hurdle, Matthew Lundine and Garrett Elliott to the All-State Team; and the selection of Jason Burch as the All-Star Team Most Valuable Player; and

WHEREAS, the Patriots have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Chris Ferrell and Assistant Coach Ricky Townsend, who have broadened the players' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

WHEREAS, the 1999-2000 season was dedicated to fellow team member and Patriot, Zach Ross, who lost his life in an automobile accident; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Marshall Academy High School Patriots Boys Basketball Team, Head Coach Chris Ferrell and Assistant Coach Ricky Townsend for their outstanding 1999-2000 season, winning the MPSA AAA State Championship and extend heartiest wishes for continued success in their future athletic and academic endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Marshall Academy High School, Head Coach Chris Ferrell, Assistant Coach Ricky Townsend and to members of the Capitol Press Corps.
