A RESOLUTION COMMENDING MS. JACKIE PARKER UPON BEING NAMED MISSISSIPPI TEACHER OF THE YEAR.

WHEREAS, Ms. Jackie Parker, an eighth-grade Challenge teacher at the Tupelo Middle School, was named Mississippi Teacher of the Year; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Parker, who is certified by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, is the first Tupelo Public School District teacher to be named Mississippi Teacher of the Year; and

WHEREAS, having a bachelor's degree in elementary education with an emphasis on gifted education, Ms. Parker became a teacher at the age of 39; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Parker will attend the National Teacher of the Year Conference in Dallas, Texas, and compete in the National Teacher of the Year event; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by teachers such as Ms. Parker, whose dedication and commitment to education has improved the quality of life for the children of this state:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Ms. Jackie Parker upon being named Mississippi Teacher of the Year and express our deepest appreciation for her tireless devotion to educating the young children of the State of Mississippi.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Ms. Jackie Parker and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
