A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE YAZOO COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL LADY PANTHERS BASKETBALL TEAM FOR WINNING THE CLASS 3A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

WHEREAS, the Yazoo County High School Lady Panthers Basketball Team finished the 1999-2000 season with a perfect record of 39 wins and no losses; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Panthers Basketball Team won their 62nd straight game with a 43-30 victory over Forest for the Class 3A State Championship; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Panthers are the three-time North State Champions and three-time District Champions, having won in 1998, 1999 and 2000; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Panthers won the Class 3A State Championship for the second year in a row and finished the season ranked number one in The Clarion-Ledger poll; and

WHEREAS, the Yazoo County Lady Panthers were ranked 15th by the USA Today in its national poll; and

WHEREAS, many individual honors have been bestowed among the players, including the naming of center Jackie Gainwell as the JPS Most Valuable Player, the All-District North State Team, the All-State Team and to the first team of the The Clarion-Ledger Dandy Dozen; the selection of forward Seneca Anderson and guard Larisha Graves the All-District Team, the All-District North State Team, the All-State Team and to the first team of the The Clarion-Ledger Dandy Dozen; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Panthers have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Patrick Nutter and Assistant Coach William Cain, who have broadened the players' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

WHEREAS, Coach Nutter has brought additional honor to Yazoo County High School and the Lady Panthers by being named the Yazoo Herald Coach of the Year and The Clarion-Ledger Coach of the Year; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Panthers developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitude reflect great credit upon the individual players and their coaches and bring honor to Yazoo County High School; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives of the State of Mississippi to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the young people of our state, who are its future:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we commend and congratulate the Yazoo County High School Lady Panthers Basketball Team, Head Coach Patrick Nutter and Assistant Coach William Cain for their outstanding 1999-2000 season, for winning the Class 3A State Championship and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Yazoo County High School, Head Coach Patrick Nutter, Assistant Coach William Cain and members of the Capitol Press Corps.
