A RESOLUTION COMMENDING MS. JOURDYN COMBS ON BEING NAMED THE 1999 BELLSOUTH FEMALE SPORTSMAN OF THE YEAR AT THE 1999 STATE GAMES OF MISSISSIPPI.

WHEREAS, Ms. Jourdyn Combs, a resident of Gulfport, Mississippi, was named the 1999 BellSouth Female Sportsman of the Year, which is a program that strives to honor athletes who represent pride in personal achievement, physical fitness and teamwork along with exemplary motivation, attitude and sportsmanship; and

WHEREAS, an athlete since age four, Jourdyn Combs first competed in the State Games of Mississippi in 1999 as a member of the Bayou View Babes 12 and under slow pitch softball team; and

WHEREAS, Jourdyn Combs, as a member of the 1999 Bayou View Babes, pitched every pitch of eight games in route to the Gold Medal; and

WHEREAS, Jourdyn Combs is actively engaged at Bayou View Middle School as a member of the basketball team, cheerleader, National Junior Honor Society and Student Council; and

WHEREAS, Jourdyn Combs exhibits tremendous sportsmanship toward all players, her teammates, as well as the oppositions; and

WHEREAS, Jourdyn Combs in overcoming a birth defect loves proving to herself and others that nothing can stop a strong will and determination; and

WHEREAS, exemplifying sportsmanship, effort and a positive attitude, Ms. Combs was chosen the 1999 BellSouth Female Sportsman of the Year for her outstanding athletic accomplishments; and

WHEREAS, the House of Representatives finds it most appropriate to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the young people of our state, who are its future:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Ms. Jourdyn Combs of Gulfport, Mississippi, on being named the 1999 BellSouth Female Sportsman of the Year at the 1999 State Games of Mississippi, and extend our heartiest wishes to her for every success in all her future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Ms. Jourdyn Combs and the Capitol Press Corps.
