House Resolution 13

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING W. DAVID PURVIS UPON BEING NAMED ONE OF MISSISSIPPI STATE UNIVERSITY'S DISTINGUISHED ENGINEERING FELLOWS OF 2000.

WHEREAS, Mr. W. David Purvis, a 1983 graduate of Mississippi State University, was named one of Mississippi State University's Distinguished Engineering Fellows of 2000; and

WHEREAS, after graduation from Mississippi State University, Mr. Purvis joined Shell Oil Company in New Orleans as a reservoir engineer, where he worked with exploration and production in the offshore Gulf of Mexico arena and participated in Shell's early deepwater discoveries; and

WHEREAS, in 1990, Mr. Purvis moved to Houston, Texas, to focus on carbon dioxide floods in Mississippi and Louisiana, later serving as the planning manager for Shell's onshore operations and area manager of West Texas operations; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Purvis has also had several assignments in Shell's financial side, serving as an internal management consultant of shareholder value and as the lead of the Equity Determination Team in forming a joint venture exploration and production company between Shell and Amoco; and

WHEREAS, in 1998, Mr. Purvis was named President and CEO of Shell Noreast, Shell's oil and gas operations in the State of Michigan; and

WHEREAS, recently, Mr. Purvis returned to New Orleans as Shell's asset manager for producing operations in the Eastern Gulf of Mexico; and

WHEREAS, in 1991, the College of Engineering at Mississippi State University named 100 Distinguished Engineering Fellows as part of the celebration of the college's 100th anniversary; and

WHEREAS, the program was reborn in 1999 with an addition of 10 new Distinguished Engineering Fellows, and eight more alumni were added in 2000 including Mr. Purvis; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Purvis has been lovingly supported in all his endeavors by his wife, Susanne, and their two children, Rebecca and Timothy:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Mr. W. David Purvis upon being named one of Mississippi State University's Distinguished Engineering Fellows of 2000 and extend our heartiest wishes for success in all his future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. W. David Purvis and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
