A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE RETIRED TEACHERS AND EMPLOYEES OF MISSISSIPPI VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY FOR THEIR YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE.

WHEREAS, the following persons will retire from Mississippi Valley State University in 2000 after giving many years of their time and service to many young men and women across the United States: Mrs. Carlee Bailey, 36 years of service; Dr. Baxish Balam, 31 years of service; Mrs. Marjorie Curtis, 32 years of service; Dr. Carolyn Ford, 32 years of service; Dr. Robbye Henderson, 31 years of service; Ms. Velma Kenter, 25 years of service; Dr. Dorothy J. Smith Nelson, 27 years of service; Dr. Lloyd Porchia, 39 years of service; Mr. James Sitton, 10 years of service; Dr. William L. Ware, 10 years of service; Mrs. Charles Zetta White, 24 years of service; Mr. Cleotha Wilson, 28 years of service; and

WHEREAS, the retired employees of Mississippi Valley State University are responsible for having prepared and groomed an entire generation of future doctors, lawyers, nurses, politicians, teachers, leaders, role models and President of the United States to face the challenges and victories that the future holds in store for this great nation of ours; and

WHEREAS, through tireless dedication and loving patience the retired employees of Mississippi Valley State University have made Mississippi a greater state by educating many young men and women to become productive, God-fearing, responsible citizens who will write the next chapter in the book of Mississippi's history; and

WHEREAS, we, the entire citizenry of the State of Mississippi, owe an immeasurable debt to the retired employees of Mississippi Valley State University, who have passed on the torch of higher education as they move on to the lighter days of their awaited retirement; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to commend excellence especially when evidenced by people who have dedicated so many years of their lives to developing and cultivating the minds and bodies of the many young men and women with whom they have come in contact during their illustrious careers:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby recognize, commend and congratulate all those educators, faculty and staff members of Mississippi Valley State University who will retire in the year 2000 after giving so many years of dedicated service in educating the young men and women of this state and across the nation.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the Board of Trustees of Mississippi Valley State University, each of the retirees and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
