A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION MEMORIALIZING THE MISSISSIPPI DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO INSTALL A TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICE ON HIGHWAY 19 SOUTH.

WHEREAS, traffic traveling on Highway 19 South at the entrances of Southeast Middle School and the Southeast Attendance Center are extremely congested during the morning and afternoon school hours; and

WHEREAS, these entrances onto Highway 19 South are so dangerous and hazardous to the public welfare and safety of the citizens of Mississippi that a law enforcement officer is required to direct traffic at these locations; and

WHEREAS, the installation of a traffic control device would greatly enhance the safety of citizens traveling Highway 19 South, especially near the Southeast Middle School and Southeast Attendance Center entrances; and

WHEREAS, the Legislature believes that the promotion of the health and safety of Mississippi citizens is a serious responsibility to be shared by all branches of government; and

WHEREAS, under the authority provided in Section 63-3-303 of the Mississippi Code of 1972, the Department of Transportation and the Commissioner of Public Safety may approve and locate a traffic light, or other traffic control device on Highway 19 South at the Southeast School entrance:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby memorialize the Mississippi Department of Transportation to install a traffic light, or other traffic control device on Highway 19 South at the entrances of Southeast Middle School and the Southeast Attendance Center.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the Mississippi Department of Transportation, the Board of Supervisors of Lauderdale County and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
