House Concurrent Resolution 101

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING PETAL HIGH SCHOOL PANTHERS BASEBALL TEAM FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING 1999 SEASON AND FOR WINNING THE OVERALL CLASS 4A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, the Petal High School Panthers Baseball Team finished the 1999 season with an outstanding record of 33 wins and only 5 losses, winning the Overall Class 4A State Championship; and
WHEREAS, the Panthers have won four state championships in the 1990's including 1990, 1991, 1995 and 1999; and
WHEREAS, many individual honors have been bestowed upon various team members in recognition of their fine, dedicated play this season, including: Ryan Lott, Travis Nowell, Josh O'Flynn, Brett Watkins and Brad Wheat; and
WHEREAS, the Panthers have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Larry Watkins and Assistant Coaches Barry Boler, Kevin Britt, Craig Fletcher and Rusty Phillips, who have broadened the Panthers knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and
WHEREAS, the Panthers have developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitude reflect great credit upon the individual players and their coaches and bring honor to Petal High School; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Petal High School Baseball Team and their coaches, Head Coach Larry Watkins and Assistant Coaches Barry Boler, Kevin Britt, Craig Fletcher and Rusty Phillips, for their outstanding 1999 season, for winning the Overall Class 4A State Championship and for displaying tireless efforts to their athletic endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Petal High School, Head Coach Larry Watkins and Assistant Coaches Barry Boler, Kevin Britt, Craig Fletcher and Rusty Phillips and to members of the Capitol Press Corps.
