A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING MRS. ALINDA CAPPS SLEDGE ON RECEIVING THE 1999-2000 HEADWAE AWARD (HIGHER EDUCATION APPRECIATION DAY: WORKING FOR ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE).

WHEREAS, Mrs. Alinda Capps Sledge, a resident of Cleveland, Mississippi, received the 1999-2000 HEADWAE Award (Higher Education Appreciation Day: Working for Academic Excellence); and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Sledge earned a bachelor's degree in social work from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas, and a master's degree in social work from the University of Southern Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Sledge first began teaching at Delta State University in 1989 on a part-time basis and currently is a full-time Professor of Social Work at Delta State University; and

WHEREAS, in addition to her teaching duties, Mrs. Sledge serves Delta State University on a number of committees and organizations including Delta Service Corp Advisory Committee, Wellness Committee, Critical Thinking Committee, Development Program, Delta Volunteers Coordinator, Social Work Club Sponsor and Student Affairs Advisory Council; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Sledge is a member of several professional organizations such as the National Association of Social Workers, Academy of Certified Social Workers and Mississippi Society for Hospital Social Work Directors; and

WHEREAS, an active member of her community, Mrs. Sledge participates in many organization including Helping Hands, Inc., I Can Cope Cancer Support Group Board, Bolivar County Head Start Advisory Board, Faculty AIDS Delta Region Education and Training Center and the Kimball Glassco Residential Center; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Sledge has been lovingly supported in all her endeavors by her husband, Mr. Thomas Nevin Sledge, and their son; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend outstanding Mississippians such as Mrs. Sledge, who has dedicated her career to teaching and furthering the education of the young people of this state, who are its future:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Mrs. Alinda Capps Sledge on receiving the 1999-2000 HEADWAE Award and extend heartiest wishes for success in all her future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mrs. Alinda Capps Sledge and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
