House Concurrent Resolution 83

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING DR. F. VAL HUSLEY UPON HIS RETIREMENT AS CURATOR OF THE MARITIME AND SEAFOOD INDUSTRY MUSEUM.

WHEREAS, Dr. F. Val Husley, a native of Biloxi, Mississippi, retired as Curator of the Maritime and Seafood Industry Museum in Biloxi; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Husley earned a bachelor's degree, a master's degree and his doctorate in history, all from Mississippi State University; and

WHEREAS, after faithfully serving his country in Vietnam, Dr. Husley taught history and served as an academic administrator at West Virginia Institute of Technology; and

WHEREAS, in 1984, Dr. Husley returned to Biloxi to serve as the city's historical administrator and helped develop the Maritime and Seafood Industry Museum and other city historical assets; and

WHEREAS, as Curator of the Maritime and Seafood Industry Museum, Dr. Husley has labored for more than a decade to bring national awareness of the history and heritage of Biloxi and its life-giving historic seafood industry; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Husley, author of numerous articles on American Civil War, American South, and maritime history, has designed, constructed and illustrated a wide range of museum exhibits nationally; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Husley is an active member of many professional organizations, including the American Association of Museums, the American Association for State and Local History, the Mississippi Historical Society, the Mississippi Museum Association, the North-South Skirmish Association and the Mississippi Gulf Coast Historical and Genealogical Society; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend outstanding Mississippians such as Dr. F. Val Husley, whose leadership, vision and many years of dedicated service have been testimony to the spirit of the people of Biloxi and the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Dr. F. Val Husley upon his retirement as the Curator of the Maritime and Seafood Industry Museum and extend our heartiest wishes for success in all his future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Dr. F. Val Husley and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
