House Concurrent Resolution 32

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING MR. ROBERT E. PICKETT UPON HIS RETIREMENT AS SUPERINTENDENT OF THE VICKSBURG WARREN COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT.

WHEREAS, Mr. Robert E. Pickett retired as Superintendent of the Warren County School District on December 31, 1999; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Pickett earned a bachelor of science degree from Alcorn State University, a Master's Degree in Educational Administration from Jackson State University and pursued further studies at Mississippi State University and the University of Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, in 1957, Mr. Pickett began his teaching career in Pass Christian, Mississippi, and later taught in schools in Rolling Fork and Vicksburg; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Pickett served as a principal in Vicksburg from 1964 to 1987, Deputy Superintendent from 1987 to 1994 and Superintendent of the Vicksburg Warren County School District from 1994 to 1999; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Pickett is a member of many professional organizations including the Mississippi Association of Secondary School Principals, the National Association of Secondary School Principals, Phi Delta Kappa, the American Association of School Administrators, the Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development, the National Staff Development Council, the Mississippi Association of School Administrators, the Mississippi Association of School Business Officials, the Mississippi Association of School Superintendents and the Southeastern Association of School Business Officials; and

WHEREAS, an active member of his community, Mr. Pickett is a member of the Three Rivers District Boy Scouts of America, the United Way of Warren County, the Vicksburg Chapter of the American Red Cross, the Port City Kiwanis Club, the Hinds Community College Board of Directors, the Warren County Port Commission and many more; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend outstanding Mississippians such as Mr. Robert E. Pickett, who has dedicated his career to educating and guiding the young people in the Vicksburg Warren County School District:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Mr. Robert E. Pickett upon his retirement as Superintendent of the Vicksburg Warren County School District and extend our heartiest wishes for success in all his future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. Robert E. Pickett and to members of the Capitol Press Corps.
