House Concurrent Resolution 31

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING MR. JACK E. HARPER, JR., UPON HIS SERVICE AS THE CHANCERY CLERK OF SUNFLOWER COUNTY AND CONGRATULATING HIM UPON HIS RETIREMENT.

WHEREAS, Mr. Jack E. Harper, Jr., has been the Chancery Clerk of Sunflower County since 1956, serving the citizens of Sunflower County for over 40 years; and

WHEREAS, after graduating from Indianola High School, Mr. Harper attended Mississippi Delta Community College and the University of Mississippi, earning a Bachelor of Laws and a Juris Doctor degrees; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Harper served the United States during World War II as a Marine Officer and one year in Korea as a member of the Mississippi National Guard; and

WHEREAS, a retired Lieutenant Colonel, Mr. Harper received the Magnolia Cross, Mississippi's military decoration for distinguished military service; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Harper is an active member of many professional and community organizations, such as the Mississippi Chancery Clerk's Association, the Indianola Chamber of Commerce, Indianola Lion's Club, the Mississippi Economic Council, the Delta Council, Sunflower County Chapter of American Red Cross, Democratic Party State Executive Committee and the Mississippi Library Commission; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Harper has been the recipient of numerous appreciation awards from various organizations including Council on Aging, Project Headstart, Indianola Academy, the American Red Cross, Indianola Public Schools, the Mississippi Economic Council, Mississippi Association of Supervisors, Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges and many more; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Harper has been lovingly supported in all his endeavors by his lovely wife, Rose, their four children and three grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Legislature of the State of Mississippi to recognize and commend outstanding Mississippians such as Mr. Jack E. Harper, Jr., who has dedicated his life to serving the people of Sunflower County:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend Mr. Jack E. Harper, Jr., for his many years of service and congratulate him upon his retirement.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. Jack E. Harper, Jr., and to members of the Capitol Press Corps.
