AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF TALLAHATCHIE COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI, TO CONTRACT WITH THE TALLAHATCHIE COUNTY CORRECTIONAL AUTHORITY OR ANY OTHER PRIVATE CORPORATION FOR THE USE OF A FACILITY OR FACILITIES OPERATED BY THE TALLAHATCHIE COUNTY CORRECTIONAL AUTHORITY OR ANY OTHER PRIVATE CORPORATION AS A JAIL FOR TALLAHATCHIE COUNTY; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. (1) The Board of Supervisors of Tallahatchie County, Mississippi, in its discretion, may contract with the Tallahatchie County Correctional Authority or with a private corporation or firm owning, operating, leasing or managing a correctional facility or correctional facilities in Tallahatchie County, Mississippi, and the Tallahatchie County Correctional Authority may contract with the Board of Supervisors of Tallahatchie County for the use of a facility or facilities, or portion thereof, located on land owned by, operated by, leased by or managed by the Tallahatchie County Correctional Authority or by a private corporation or firm, as a jail for Tallahatchie County. Such jail facility may be used to hold all inmates who lawfully may be held in a county jail as otherwise authorized by law. Tallahatchie County, Mississippi, may receive payment for the use of such jail facility by Tallahatchie County, Mississippi, or by any other jurisdiction.

(2) The powers and duties authorized by this act shall be considered as supplemental and additional to any other powers and duties authorized or prescribed by law.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
