AN ACT TO REQUIRE THE MISSISSIPPI DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION AND LOCAL GOVERNING AUTHORITIES TO PROMPTLY REMOVE OR CONTRACT FOR THE REMOVAL OF ROCKS, DIRT AND DEBRIS FROM THE SURFACE OF HARD-SURFACED ROADWAYS UNDER THEIR JURISDICTION WHICH PRESENT A HAZARD FOR MOTOR VEHICLE TRAFFIC; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. The Mississippi Department of Transportation, with regard to highways on the state highway system, and the boards of supervisors of counties and the governing authorities of municipalities, with regard to highways, roads and streets under their jurisdiction, shall perform such work or contract for such work as may be necessary to ensure the prompt removal of rocks, dirt and debris from the surface of hard-surfaced roadways resulting from construction, maintenance or repair of roads, rights-of-way or adjacent property, the presence of which present a hazard for motor vehicle traffic.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2000.
