AN ACT TO PROHIBIT WORK ON HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS DURING RUSH-HOUR PERIODS EXCEPT UPON APPROVAL BY THE MISSISSIPPI TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. Work on highway construction and maintenance projects performed by the Mississippi Department of Transportation or pursuant to contracts let by the Transportation Commission in counties with a population in excess of one hundred thousand (100,000) shall not take place or be performed during the peak rush-hour periods from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. or from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. unless the commission finds that performance of work during such hours is critical to timely completion of the project.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2000.
