AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 19-3-59, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO AUTHORIZE BOARDS OF SUPERVISORS TO AUTHORIZE FUNDS NOT EXCEEDING FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS TO BE EXPENDED BY COUNTY AGENCIES FOR BUSINESS LUNCHEONS, ACTIVITIES AND MEETINGS RELATING TO THE PERFORMANCE OF THEIR OFFICIAL DUTIES; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. Section 19-3-59, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:

19-3-59. (1) The board of supervisors shall direct the appropriation of money that may come into the county treasury, but shall not appropriate the same to an object not authorized by law.

(2) The board of supervisors may authorize funds to be expended by county agencies for business luncheons, activities and meetings which are participated in by county officials or employees and their invited guests or dignitaries and which relate to the performance of their official duties. Before any funds are expended, the county agencies must get approval from the board of supervisors. The request for funds shall be subject to approval in the same manner as claims on the board's claim docket are approved. The amount approved for each activity or event shall not exceed Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00).

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2000.
