AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 2, CHAPTER 552, LAWS OF 1995, TO CLARIFY WHICH COURSES MAY BE OFFERED AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSISSIPPI ADVANCED EDUCATION CENTER; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. Section 2, Chapter 552, Laws of 1995, is amended as follows:

Section 2. The purpose of Sections 1 through 18 of this act is to provide the necessary funding for the acquisition, construction, equipping and furnishing of the University of Mississippi Advanced Education Center, in Tupelo, Mississippi, on the campus of Itawamba Community College, hereinafter referred to in this section as the "center." The development of the center is a joint and cooperative effort of the University of Mississippi, Itawamba Community College, Mississippi University for Women, the Tupelo Public Schools and local business, industry, economic development and government entities. The University of Mississippi, Itawamba Community College and the Mississippi University for Women may offer courses and programs at the center. Itawamba Community College, in its discretion, may offer lower level academic courses on the community college's campus in Tupelo at those times determined by the administration of Itawamba Community College to best promote the mission of the center. The mission of the center is to:

(a) Act as a center for lifelong learning by providing academic courses as well as professional development programs and workshops;

(b) Be a resource and assistance center for community and economic development; and

(c) Be a research and development, service and public relations arm of the University of Mississippi, in cooperation with Itawamba Community College and the Mississippi University for Women.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
