AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 25-3-73, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO DELETE THE REQUIREMENT OF PAYING STATE EMPLOYEES ON A DELAYED BASIS WHEN, ON JANUARY 1, 2001, THE STATE BEGINS TO PAY EMPLOYEES TWICE A MONTH; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. Section 25-3-73, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:

25-3-73. From and after January 1, 2001, all state and nonstate service employees, as defined in Section 25-9-107, shall be paid * * * twice a month. If such employees' payday falls on a state holiday, as set forth in Section 3-3-7, or on a Saturday or Sunday, such employees shall be paid on the working day preceding such holiday, Saturday or Sunday.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2000.
