House Bill 853

AN ACT TO PROVIDE A CAUSE OF ACTION FOR THE STATE OR A POLITICAL SUBDIVISION AGAINST THE PARENT OF A MINOR CHILD FOR COSTS INVOLVING INVESTIGATION AND PROSECUTION OF A CRIME CAUSED BY THE CHILD'S POSSESSION OF THE PARENT'S FIREARM; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. The state or any political subdivision is authorized to sue the parents of any minor child aged thirteen (13) years and under for the recovery of any monies spent by the state or political subdivision in the investigation and prosecution of any crime caused as the result of such minor child who possesses a firearm which belongs to the parent without the permission and supervision of the parent.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2000.
