AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 25-3-33, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO DELETE THE SALARIES OF THE CLERK OF THE SUPREME COURT AND STATE LAW LIBRARIAN FROM THE OMNIBUS PAY SECTION; TO AMEND SECTIONS 9-3-14 AND 39-1-1, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO REQUIRE THE SUPREME COURT TO FIX THE COMPENSATION OF THE CLERK AND STATE LAW LIBRARIAN; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. Section 25-3-33, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:

25-3-33. The annual salaries of the following appointive state and district officials and employees are fixed as follows:

Deputy Attorney General, not to exceed $72,800.00

Assistant Attorneys General shall each

receive annual salaries in an amount

to be fixed by the Attorney General

but not to exceed 68,400.00

Military Department--National Guard:

SECTION 2. Section 9-3-14, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:

9-3-14. The Clerk of the Supreme Court shall be appointed by majority vote of the Supreme Court and shall serve at the pleasure of the court. The Supreme Court shall fix the compensation of the Clerk of the Supreme Court, subject to the approval of the State Personnel Board.

SECTION 3. Section 39-1-1, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:

39-1-1. (1) There shall be a State Library which shall render law library services to the Supreme Court and other state courts, to state officials and to the general public.

(2) The State Library shall be under the supervision and control of the Mississippi Supreme Court, and the court shall be empowered to promulgate policies and procedures necessary for the efficient operation of the Library.

(3) The Supreme Court shall fix the compensation of the State Law Librarian, subject to the approval of the State Personnel Board.

SECTION 4. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2000.
