AN ACT TO REQUIRE INSURERS THAT PAY AUTOMOBILE LIABILITY INSURANCE CLAIMS TO PLACE AS PAYEES THE NAMES OF CERTAIN HEALTH CARE AND EMERGENCY PROVIDERS ON THE PAYMENT DRAFT ISSUED ON BEHALF OF THE INSURED; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. When an insurer pays a claim under an automobile liability insurance policy, the insurer shall place as payees the names of every health care provider and emergency provider that provided services on the payment draft issued on behalf of the insured. The insurer shall notify, by certified mail, the health care providers and the emergency providers on the date of the issuance of such payment draft.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2000.
