AN ACT MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICE OF COURTS FOR THE PURPOSE OF FUNDING THE STATEWIDE PUBLIC DEFENDER SYSTEM FOR FISCAL YEAR 2001, AND MAKING AN ADDITIONAL APPROPRIATION TO THE ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICE OF COURTS FOR THE PURPOSE OF DEFRAYING THE EXPENSES OF THE PUBLIC DEFENDER COMMISSION FOR FISCAL YEAR 2000.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. The following sum, or so much of it as may be necessary, is appropriated out of any money in the State General Fund not otherwise appropriated, to the Administrative Office of Courts for the purpose of funding the Statewide Public Defender System established under Section 25-32-31 et seq., Mississippi Code of 1972, for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2000, and ending June 30, 2001 $15,000,000.00.

SECTION 2. In addition to all other sums heretofore appropriated, the following sum, or so much of it as may be necessary, is appropriated out of any money in the State General Fund not otherwise appropriated, to the Administrative Office of Courts for the purpose of defraying the expenses of the Public Defender Commission, for the fiscal year ending June 30,

2000 $100,000.00.

SECTION 3. The additional appropriation in Section 2 of this act is made for the purpose of providing funds for the Public Defender Commission and those expenses authorized by Chapter 575, Section 21, Laws of 1998.

SECTION 4. The money appropriated by this act shall be paid by the State Treasurer out of any money in the State General Fund not otherwise appropriated, upon warrants issued by the State Fiscal Officer; and the State Fiscal Officer shall issue his warrants upon requisitions signed by the proper person, officer or officers in the manner provided by law.

SECTION 5. Section 1 of this act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2000; Sections 2, 3 and 4 of this act shall take effect and be in force from and after the passage of this act.
