AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF ANY COUNTY TO FIND IN CONTEMPT ANY PERSON WHO VIOLATES ITS ORDERS AND TO IMPOSE FINES FOR SUCH VIOLATIONS; TO PROVIDE THAT SUCH FINES SHALL BE ENTERED ON THE JUDGEMENT ROLL OF THE COUNTY AND SHALL BE A LIEN ON ALL OF THE TAXABLE PROPERTY OF THE CONTEMNOR; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. Section 19-3-39, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:

19-3-39. (1) The members of the board of supervisors are conservators of the peace within their respective counties, and shall possess all the powers as such which belong to, or are conferred on, justice court judges.

(2) The board of supervisors of any county, by a majority vote, may find in contempt any person who violates any order of the board duly adopted and entered on its minutes and may impose a fine in such amount as it may establish for such violations. Any such fine so imposed may be enforced by entering the fine on the judgment roll of the county, and such fine, when so ordered, shall be a lien on all of the real and personal property of the contemnor until he purges himself thereof.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2000.
