Senate Resolution 35

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE HAZLEHURST GIRLS HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL TEAM, THE LADY INDIANS, FOR WINNING THE CLASS 3A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP. 

WHEREAS, the Hazlehurst girls high school basketball team, the Lady Indians, won the Class 3A state championship; and

WHEREAS, this was the first championship for one of the perennial top teams in the state which had finished runner-up four times in 10 trips to the state tournament; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Indians finished with a record of 29 wins and only 5 losses; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Indians' tenacious defense held their opponent to only 39 points in the title game; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Indians dominated the boards and garnered 51 rebounds; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Indians were ably coached by first year Coach Lisa Powell who had been on the job only 7 months; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Senate to commend the noteworthy accomplishments of the citizens of the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the Hazlehurst Girls High School Basketball Team, the Lady Indians, for winning the Class 3A State Championship.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to the Lady Indians.
