Senate Resolution 30

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE BLACK ROSE THEATRE GROUP IN BRANDON, MISSISSIPPI, FOR RECEIVING AWARDS AT THE SOUTHEASTERN THEATRE CONFERENCE. 

WHEREAS, The Black Rose Theatre Group in Brandon, Mississippi, recently competed in the Southeastern Theatre Conference in Birmingham, Alabama, and brought home the awards for Best Play and for Best All-Around Ensemble; and

WHEREAS, The Black Rose Theatre Group won over representatives from the states of Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia and Kentucky; and

WHEREAS, winning these awards was an exceptional feat for The Black Rose Theatre Group since The Black Rose Theatre has a yearly budget of about $10,000, compared to some of the competitors' yearly budgets which are usually in excess of $500,000; and

WHEREAS, in January of 1998, The Black Rose Theatre Group won the Mississippi Theatre Competition in Biloxi, Mississippi, which gave it the opportunity to represent Mississippi at the Southeastern Theatre Conference; and

WHEREAS, special recognition should be given to the many who contributed to The Black Rose Theatre Group, including Doug Hutton, Producer; Brett Douglas, Director; Emily Noble, Cast Member; Lavonne Bruckner, Cast Member; and Elizabeth Durham, Cast Member; and

WHEREAS, the trip to compete in the Southeastern Theatre Conference in Birmingham, Alabama, was financed by generous Brandon-area businesses; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize the outstanding achievements of its citizens:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend The Black Rose Theatre Group for receiving awards at the Southeastern Theatre Conference.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the Black Rose Theatre Group and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
