Senate Resolution 17

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING REVEREND SELBY MCMANUS FOR HIS DEDICATED SERVICE AND CONGRATULATING HIM UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT. 

WHEREAS, Reverend Selby McManus is retiring after serving in the ministry for 47 years; and

WHEREAS, Reverend McManus served at the Oak Street Church in Biloxi from 1958 to 1961; and

WHEREAS, after he left Oak Street Church, Reverend McManus continued to serve as "The Preacher" to Houston Gollott and Charlie Weems for many years; and

WHEREAS, Reverend McManus' commitment to serving his fellow man, especially the least among us, led him to serve as Chaplain at Mississippi State Penitentiary from 1968 to 1973; and

WHEREAS, Reverend McManus touched the lives of hundreds of men and women; and

WHEREAS, Reverend McManus traveled throughout the state with an inmate group speaking to civic clubs and high schools; and

WHEREAS, Reverend McManus and the inmates had a profound effect on many students; and

WHEREAS, Reverend McManus spent countless hours at the Pre-Release Center preparing inmates for a productive life after parole; and

WHEREAS, Reverend McManus served as Pastoral Minister at the First Assembly of God in Winston Salem, North Carolina, from June 1987 to March 1998; and

WHEREAS, Reverend McManus is to be commended for his dedicated ministry and service to others:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend Reverend Selby McManus for his faithful and fruitful ministry and service to his fellow man and congratulate him upon the occasion of his retirement and wish him continued success in his endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Reverend Selby McManus.
