A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND THANKING ALL FORMER STATE SENATORS FOR THEIR SERVICE TO THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, UPON THE OCCASION OF THEIR REUNION ON FEBRUARY 5, 1998, AND HONORING THE RECIPIENTS OF THE 1998 SENATE DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD.  

WHEREAS, there are numerous former members of the Mississippi State Senate whose dedication, unselfish service and proven ability is a matter of record; and

WHEREAS, on February 5, 1998, all former and active members of the Mississippi State Senate are invited to attend a grand reunion to commemorate their service to the State of Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, by ballot of all present and former members of the Senate, the following were voted to receive the 1998 Senate Distinguished Service Award to be recognized on the floor of the Senate during the February 5, 1998, reunion ceremony: Senator Ellis B. Bodron, Senator Frank Barber, Senator Frank Smith, Senator Paul Lee and Senate Legislative Services Director T.C. Ward; and

WHEREAS, Senator Charles Pittman is the founder of this annual Mississippi Senate Reunion for all of our present and past State Senators, and he has announced that he is retiring from the responsibility of organizing this event after many years of dedication and hard work:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MISSISSIPPI STATE SENATE, That we do hereby commend and thank all former State Senators for their service to the State of Mississippi, upon the occasion of their tenth annual reunion on February 5, 1998, and particularly remember with honor the recipients of the 1998 Senate Distinguished Service Award.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That we do hereby commend and thank former Senator Charles Pittman, and especially his wife Kathy Pittman, for their many years of charitable commitment and leadership in organizing this memorable occasion.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be presented to Senator Charles Pittman and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
