MISSISSIPPI LEGISLATURE

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE STONE HIGH SCHOOL BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM FOR AN OUTSTANDING SEASON. 

WHEREAS, the Stone High School Boys Basketball Team won the Perry Central Tournament and the Pine, Louisiana Tournament; and

WHEREAS, they had an excellent season, ending with a 34-1 record, which sets a new school record in Stone High School's sports annals; and

WHEREAS, Stone High School, after a fine showing and against stiff competition, came in as the District 8 4-A Champions in that tournament for the third year in a row; and

WHEREAS, the team became South State Champions at the South State Tournament back-to-back years; and

WHEREAS, the team dominated the 4-A State Tournament, becoming the 4-A State Champions; and

WHEREAS, the team members are a fine example of what dedicated play can mean to the game; and

WHEREAS, every member of the team is an integral part of the team's success; and

WHEREAS, players Roderick James, who was also named Most Valuable Player of District 8 4-A; Ricky Blackmore, Shannon Harris and Brian Campbell were named All-District 8 4-A players; and

WHEREAS, Roderick James and Shannon Harris made the All-South Mississippi Team; and

WHEREAS, Roderick James, Shannon Harris and Terry Galloway were named to the All-State Team; and

WHEREAS, the team members have been inspired and ably led by Coach Peter Georgian; and

WHEREAS, Coach Georgian was named District 8 4-A Coach of the Year and Mississippi Coach of the Year; and

WHEREAS, these young men have developed a superior sense of competition, sportsmanship and fair play, along with a winning and cooperative spirit; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize, commend and encourage excellence, especially when demonstrated by the youth of our state:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MISSISSIPPI SENATE, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Stone High School Boys Basketball Team for their championship wins and outstanding season of hoops, and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Stone High School and Coach Georgian.
