A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING DAVID OGDEN "BUD" THOMS FOR HIS DEDICATED SERVICE ON THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF JONES COUNTY JUNIOR COLLEGE.
WHEREAS, David Ogden "Bud" Thoms retired after 50 consecutive years of service as a member of the Board of Trustees of Jones County Junior College; and
WHEREAS, David Ogden "Bud" Thoms served 28 consecutive years as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Jones County Junior College; and
WHEREAS, David Ogden "Bud" Thoms' "pay as you go" construction plan resulted in Jones County Junior College being the only two-year college that was debt free; and
WHEREAS, David Ogden "Bud" Thoms' tireless service ensured that the Jones County Junior College would attain its goal of educating and molding the students to be productive citizens and leaders of this state; and
WHEREAS, David Ogden "Bud" Thoms established two scholarships to provide assistance to students; and
WHEREAS, David Ogden "Bud" Thoms was selected as the 1997 Honor Alumnus by the Jones County Junior College Alumni Association; and
WHEREAS, David Ogden "Bud" Thoms is a charter member of the Jones County Junior College Foundation Board of Directors; and
WHEREAS, David Ogden "Bud" Thoms has served as the President and Vice-President of the Mississippi Junior College State Board of Trustees; and
WHEREAS, David Ogden "Bud" Thoms' commitment to this nation is evidenced by his service as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force during World War II; and
WHEREAS, David Ogden "Bud" Thoms is very active in community and civic affairs; and
WHEREAS, David Ogden "Bud" Thoms received the Silver Beaver Award, the highest civilian award awarded by the Boy Scouts of America; and
WHEREAS, David Ogden "Bud" Thoms also received the Forestry Meritorious Award, the most prestigious award of the MS Forestry Association; and
WHEREAS, David Ogden "Bud" Thoms is a dedicated and faithful member of his church, the Richton United Methodist Church, where he has served as Chairman of the Administrative Board, Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher, lay leader and finance chairman; and
WHEREAS, David Ogden "Bud" Thoms has unselfishly dedicated his time, talents and life to serving his community, Jones County Junior College and the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MISSISSIPPI STATE SENATE, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we commend Mr. David Ogden "Bud" Thoms for his many years of dedicated service to Jones County Junior College and the youth of this state.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to Mr. David Ogden "Bud" Thoms.
