A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING DELTA STATE UNIVERSITY CENTER TRINA DAVIS FOR BEING VOTED ONTO THE KODAK DIVISION II WOMEN'S ALL-AMERICA TEAM BY THE WOMEN'S BASKETBALL COACHES ASSOCIATION. 

WHEREAS, Delta State University's Trina Davis has been listed as one of 10 top NCAA Division women's basketball players named to the 1998 Kodak Division II Women's All-America team; and

WHEREAS, the prestigious 10-member squad was selected by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), and this team marks the 16th season that Kodak and the WBCA have selected an honor roll team for Division II (Kodak has sponsored an All-American team at the Division I level since 1975); and

WHEREAS, Trina Davis becomes the 11th Lady Statesmen to be honored by the Kodak corporation, joining three-time honoree Lusia Harris, two-time recipients LaTanya Patty and Stacy Johnson, Debbie Brock, Delinda Samuels and Crystal Hardy; and

WHEREAS, the 6-1 center from Arcola, Mississippi, led the Lady Statesmen into their fourth consecutive NCAA South Regional Tournament, and during her four-year career, the Lady Statesmen made two Elite Eight appearances including a 1996-97 appearance in which Davis earned Gulf South Conference Tournament and NCAA South Regional tournament Most Valuable Player honors; and

WHEREAS, this season, Davis averaged 18.2 points and 9.0 rebounds per game leading the Lady Statesmen in both categories for the season; she led the Gulf South Conference in field-goal percentage with a 66.3 mark; Davis finishes her career with 1,318 points placing her 17th on the Delta State career scoring ladder behind Anita Robinson; she will also finish her career as Delta State's third leading shot blocker with 151; earlier this season, Davis received the GSC's West Division Most Valuable Player award from the league's coaches and was named to the Dakatronics/CoSIDA All-South Region second-team; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this Mississippi athlete who has brought such honor to her school and to her state:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Delta State center Trina Davis upon being voted onto the Kodak Division II Women's All-America team by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association, and wish her success in her future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution be presented to Trina Davis, the Athletic Department of Delta State University, and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
